Honda Canada has announced the prices, colours and release date for the highly anticipated 2016 HRV.  As predicted, it falls nicely between the Honda Fit and Honda CR-V.

For months Honda’s been inviting car critics to sunny locales to drive the new crossover but had an embargo limiting what the press could report. They could mention how nice it looked (and they did) the nifty features it has on it (and it does), but no one was allowed to mention the ride quality, release date or pin point the prices until now.  .

With an impressive shopping list of standard features, we were pleasantly surprised the starting price has come in as low as $20,690 for the 6 speed HR-V LX model and topping off with the heavily equipped HR-V EX-L Navi at $29,990.

This newest entry to the Honda line-up is elbowing it’s way to becoming an instant Honda classic. But really, how could it miss? Canada has had a long love affair with the Civic (#1 selling car in Canada for over 17yrs), so we’re obviously a smart bunch of people that realize that Canada has A LOT of ground to cover and we’d prefer to do it in an economical fun-to-drive compact car. Now give those same drivers the flexibility to flip their seats down, flip their seats up, pack in as much cargo as a shopping spree at Costco can bring you but still be able to pull up to a red carpet affair in style…well no wonder we’re all excited about this new Honda! With the available 4WD borrowed from the CRV, a manual transmission from the Accord, seating flexibility from the Fit, an 1.8L engine borrowed from the Civic, Honda has taken some of the best features from their lineup and neatly wrapped up a present for us in a wide-body-coupe-like package.

Unfortunately we here at the dealership are also waiting to test drive one but we can share with you a few words from various critics who have driven it and have finally been allowed to share their thoughts on the HR-V now that the embargo has been lifted.

Its 1.8-liter four is so smooth and quiet at idle that we initially thought the HR-V might be equipped with start/stop (it isn’t). Overall refinement ranks high. The HR-V is coarser than the grade-up CR-V, but quieter than a Fit, and smoother than a Nissan Juke.” – AutoWeek

As the compact crossover class continues its big surge, the HR-V is a strong contender. It’s fun to drive, affordably priced, and continues the Japanese automaker’s long trend of offering excellent packaging and functionality” – AutoBlog

It’s quick, it’s nimble, and it’s surprisingly comfortable, with a thoughtful interior package. The HR-V is the next star in Honda’s lineup” –MotorTrend

From the amount of buzz we’ve had in the showroom lately,

we’re wondering how we’ve survived so long without a HRV in our line up!
