2016 Civic – All Hail Civic Nation’s New King!Oct 9th, 2015
Even after their live YouTube launch in September, there’s still an information embargo on all new 2016 Civic. Technically we’re not allowed to shout from the rooftops all the juicy bits of the new Civic…yet. None the less, we can’t keep down our enthusiasm and we feel the need to share what we can when it comes to this hot new Civic.
Introduced to Canada in 1973 and becoming the country’s #1 selling vehicle in 1999; the Honda Civic has enhanced the curb appeal of more Canadian homes than any other passenger vehicle. Now, to coincide with it’s 10th generation celebration, Honda is about to launch it’s most ambitious remake of the Civic ever.
The thinking behind Honda’s design direction got us thinking; what’s a car company supposed to do when all other manufacturer’s look to you to establish the public’s expectations in a particular class of car?
Enlist Fresh Thinking:
Enlist the worlds top automotive designers and engineers and ask them to design a car that breaks the public’s perception of what a compact car can be. The 2016 Civic is a new-from-the-ground-up design that intends to “recapture the sporty character of Civic”. The global design team’s goal of styling a dramatic form follows and speaks to the dynamic function of this ambitious redesign. The interior has been “designed to offer the most comfortable, sophisticated & premium-feeling cabin in the compact class”. The 2016 Civic will offer the largest cabin with the addition of 91L of interior volume. At the back, Civic now boosts a 75L increase in trunk space with a larger and lower opening.
Offer a Wide Variety:
The tenth generation Civic will be available as a sedan, coupe, high performance Si models, a 5 door hatchback and for the first time ever in the Canadian market; the Civic Type R. Finding the right Civic your lifestyle has never been easier! Not only will drivers have the option of body style, but for the first time ever the Civic sedan will offer two all-new, more powerful and fuel efficient engines. Civic LX and EX models will be powered by a 2.0-litre, 16 valve DOHC I-VTEC–the most powerful base engine ever offered in a Civic, mated to either a 6 speed manual or a continuously variable transmission (CVT). The Civic EX-T and Touring trims will be powered by the most powerful engine ever offered in a non-Si Civic. A 1.5 liter, direct injected and turbocharged 16-valve DOHC inline 4, mated to a unique CVT, will deliver a new level of responsiveness. The Civic sedan will be the first to arrive in late October, with the Coupe following up next and 5 door hatch due in the new year.
Invite the Future:
More and more tech friendly features are making there way into vehicles. Gone are the days when you had to buy larger, pricey vehicles to get the latest and greatest equipment you want. Just because someone prefers a smaller vehicle doesn’t mean they prefer a smaller list of standard equipment. A new 7″ high-definition display audio touchscreen, Bluetooth, Android Auto, Apple Car Play (compatible with iOS 8.4 or later), Siri or Talk to Google functionality, backup camera, USB ports, HDMI ports all of which are designed to operate with a polished simplicity. Stay relevant and connected while you drive your 2016 Civic into the future.
Protect your Drivers:
Honda has recently introduced Canada to their Honda Sensing suite of safety technologies in the CRV, Accord and the new 2016 Pilot. Now Civic drivers will be able to enjoy features like Road Departure Mitigation, LaneWatch, Collision Mitigation Braking, and for the first time in a Honda vehicle Adaptive Cruise Control with Low-Speed Follow, bringing raised eyebrows from the competition at the new level of value in the compact segment.
Feed our Canadian Pride:
A new vehicle is driven off the line in Honda’s Alliston Ontario plant #1 every 63 seconds. Honda also sources over 2.1 Billion dollars a year from Canadian suppliers. There’s a lot of history behind Honda’s tag line: Civic Nation. The plant has been so successful building great Civics for the North American market, that Honda has decided to make Alliston the first Lead Plant ever to be located outside of Japan. Simply put: Canadians will be teaching the other Honda Plants around the world how to build great Civics.
“The Civic Sedan is the first in a series of the new 10th-generation Civic models that will include a sedan, coupe, high-performance Si models, a 5 door hatchback and the first-ever Civic Type R model for the Canadian market, comprising the most diverse and innovative lineup in the Civic’s 43 year history”
