Everything you want to know about the 2023 Honda CR-V Hybrid

The 2023 Honda CR-V was introduced this week and it promises to deliver more interior space, more technology, improved efficiency, and better performance as well. That said, the highlight of the new CR-V is the introduction of a new hybrid powertrain. Although we touched on this model in our previous CR-V article, we wanted to focus on the new and latest electrified vehicle from Honda which, according to the Japanese automaker, could make up to 50% of sales of the CR-V.

Here is everything you want to know about the 2023 Honda CR-V Hybrid.

The 2023 Honda CR-V Hybrid will launch after the new CR-V which arrives on the market this summer with its 1.5 L turbocharged 4-cylinder. The new CR-V Hybrid will arrive towards the end of the year in dealerships.

While LX, Sport, and EX-L models will feature the turbo 4-cylinder, the Touring model which sits at the top of the line of the Honda CR-V lineup will come standard with the hybrid. The latter is the fourth generation of the Honda hybrid system and pairs a 2 L inline 4-cylinder gas engine with a dual-motor electric powertrain. Combined, these engines deliver 204 horsepower along with 247 pound-feet of torque.

While the regular CR-V will feature an ECON mode, a normal mode, and a new Snow mode, the hybrid CR-V will also feature a Sport mode. This may seem odd at first glance, but the CR-V Hybrid is in fact the most powerful Honda CR-V ever built and it is designed to be just as engaging to drive as it is efficient.

The average fuel consumption rating hasn't been confirmed, but Honda says it could reach as high as 50 MPG which translates into 5.6 L per 100 km. We will have to wait for the official numbers, but if they prove to be close to what Honda is saying, the 2023 Honda CR-V Hybrid could very well be the most efficient compact SUV in its class.

As a final note, It is noteworthy that the hybrid powertrain does not require any compromise on cargo space in the CR-V Hybrid. According to Honda, the interior volume is rated at just over 1,000, and the hybrid features an adjustable load floor which can increase cargo space to over 1,100 litres. Total cargo space is rated at 2166 L.

The 2023 Honda CR-V Hybrid will arrive on the market before the end of the year.
