The Honda Accord is the heavy hitter of the Canadian sedan market, enjoying best-selling status decade after decade. The new 2023 Hybrid model makes the lineup more attractive than ever. A Classic Sedan Design Updated The Accord Hybrid shares a newly updated body design with its gas-powered siblings, combining all the classic style of the sedan format with smooth-flowing lines to create a thoroughly modern profile. Additionally, the Hybrid offers several exterior options to refine its looks, including 19-inch black alloy wheels, an integrated rear spoiler, and a shark fin radio antenna, giving the sedan an imposing presence that stands out among the crowd.
Responsive Hybrid Power and Economy It’s under the hood where the Accord Hybrid starts to really show its premium quality. The powertrain is based around a 2.0L direct injection gas engine coupled with two electric motors, providing a combined output of 204 horsepower and 247lb-ft of torque. The power is fed to front-wheel drive through an electric-continuously variable transmission (E-CVT), smoothly harnessing the acceleration provided by the near-instant torque of the electric motors. The transmission also includes deceleration paddle selectors mounted on the steering wheel, which allow slowing of the vehicle without braking while recharging the battery at the same time. Multiple driving modes are available, including Normal, Sport, and Individual, which adjust the Accord’s responses to suit your preferences and driving style. However, perhaps the most interesting option is the ECON mode, which is designed to make full use of the hybrid powertrain’s efficiency, returning excellent fuel economy figures of just 5.0L / 100km in the city and 5.7L on the highway.
Premium Interior Comforts The new hybrid powertrain may be the highlight of this Accord model, but the interior lives up to the premium standards you’d expect from a top-of-the-range Honda. Heated front seats are standard, with options for ventilation at the front and heating at the rear. There’s also a choice between sport fabric or leather-trimmed seating surfaces, depending on the model. Driving instrumentation is provided by a 10.2-inch colour display behind the wheel, with a 12.3-inch touchscreen handling infotainment duties. If that’s not enough digital real estate, the optional head-up display projects a customizable selection of driving information, navigation instructions, and traffic sign data directly onto the windshield. Standard tech facilities include Wi-Fi tethering, Amazon Alexa, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto, with both wireless charging and embedded navigation available as options. The top trim level in the Hybrid lineup also includes Google Automotive Services technology which integrates Android apps directly into the vehicle, giving full access to Google Maps, Google Assistant, and Google Play without relying on your smartphone.
